Seeking a Research Scientist or a Postdoctoral Researcher (25-3065)

Laboratory

Adaptive Bayesian Intelligence Team
Generic Technology Research Group
RIKEN Center for Advanced Intelligence Project
(Laboratory head: Mohammad Emtiyaz Khan)

*Beginning April 1, 2026, the “Generic Technology Research Group” will be renamed the “Mathematical Intelligence Group.”

Outline of Laboratory

The RIKEN Center for Advanced Intelligence Project has been launched since April 2016 with the subsidy for “Advanced Integrated Intelligence Platform Project-Artificial Intelligence/ Big Data/ Internet of Things/ Cybersecurity-.” from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Our center aims to achieve scientific breakthrough and to contribute to the welfare of society and humanity through developing innovative technologies. We also conduct research on ethical, legal and social issues caused by the spread of AI technology and develop human resources.
Humans, animals, and other living beings have a natural ability to autonomously learn throughout their lives and quickly adapt to their surroundings, but computers lack such abilities. The goal of the Adaptive Bayesian Intelligence Team is to bridge such gaps between the learning of living-beings and computers. We are machine learning researchers with expertise in areas such as approximate inference, Bayesian statistics, continuous optimization, information geometry, etc. We work on a variety of learning problems, especially those involving supervised, continual, active, federated, online, and reinforcement learning.
