RIKEN Center for Computational Science (R-CCS)

Satoshi Matsuoka(Ph.D.) Director: Satoshi Matsuoka (Ph.D.)

The RIKEN Center for Computational Science (R-CCS) operates the world-class supercomputer "Fugaku," providing computational resources to a wide range of users across academia, research institutions, and industry. Simultaneously, we conduct research and development in the " The Science of computing, by computing, and for computing" to contribute to the advancement of computational and computer sciences.

We are carrying out research focused on integrating "Fugaku" with large-scale AI and quantum computing to establish a cutting-edge computational environment and to expand the "computable domain" essential for the progress of science and industry. Through these efforts, we are working to build foundations for "AI for Science" and platforms for quantum-HPC (High Performance Computing) hybrid computing.

Furthermore, with R-CCS playing a central role, we are advancing the international collaborative development of "FugakuNEXT"—the successor to "Fugaku"—with the goal of commencing operations around 2030.

By applying these outcomes to the development and deployment of "Fugaku" and "FugakuNEXT," we will contribute to solving problems across diverse research fields and fostering outstanding research achievements in pioneering areas such as "AI for Science."
