Seeking a few Research Scientists or Postdoctoral Researchers (26-1488)

Laboratory / Division

Hybrid Quantum Circuits Research Team,
RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing
(Team Director: Atsushi Noguchi)

Outline of Laboratory / Division

The missions of the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing (RQC) are to deepen our understanding of quantum mechanics and quantum information, develop techniques for quantum control and measurement, build quantum computing hardware and software, and explore novel applications. We promote basic research on quantum information science and contribute to society through quantum technology. In superconducting circuits, the tunneling effect at Josephson junctions can be used to express various quantum functions such as qubits and parametric circuits. Such high-performance quantum systems combined with other quantum systems are called hybrid quantum systems. Our team aims to establish a quantum control technique that greatly surpasses existing performance by constructing high-lifetime quantum systems such as microwave resonators and trapped electrons, observing and controlling them with superconducting circuits, and then freeing quantum systems from their finite lifetimes by realizing quantum error correction codes using this technique.

Job title and Job description

Job title

Postdoctoral Researcher or Research Scientist: a few positions available

In general, Postdoctoral Researchers are defined as those with a doctoral degree of 5 years or less, while Research Scientists are defined as those with a doctoral degree more than 5 years.

Job description

The project will focus on the research topic “Design and Characterization of Qubits for Integrated Circuits” within the Moonshot Goal 6 research project, “Development of a Fault-Tolerant Superconducting Quantum Computer System.” In addition, research will be conducted on quantum electronics using superconducting quantum circuits and on hybrid quantum systems.

The job description may be changed during the contract period or upon contract renewal to the extent described above.

Qualification

The candidate should possess a doctoral degree in a related field or be expected to obtain such a degree by the date of hire, and have research experience in quantum technologies.

Work location

RIKEN Wako Campus (2-1 Hirosawa, Wako, Saitama 351-0198)

RIKEN may order the employee to change work locations, if necessary, in accordance with RIKEN regulations.

Salary and benefits

  • 1.A one-year fixed-term employment contract, renewable based on evaluation, up to March 31, 2031 from the date of hire.
  • 2.RIKEN may adjust the above maximum period of renewability based on a) the employee’s abilities, workload at the time of contract completion, performance and work attitude and b) the continuation of the employee’s center, laboratory or project and RIKEN’s management situation and budget at the time. In principle, employment contracts will not be renewed for individuals older than 70 years.

In principle, the first two months of employment are considered a trial period.

Salary will be an annual salary based on experience, ability, and performance, and will consist of a base salary and a variable salary. The variable salary will be determined each fiscal year based on experience, ability, and performance.
Discretionary work, commuting and housing allowances will be provided. Social insurance will be applied.

The approximate amount of salary at the time of employment

For Postdoctoral Researcher
The monthly salary including discretionary work allowance at the time of employment will be 400,000 JPY or more.
For Research Scientist
The monthly salary including discretionary work allowance at the time of employment will be 470,000 JPY or more
