MOU with BIPM and Shimadzu on collaboration toward redefining the second

On May 12, at a ceremony in Kawasaki, Japan, RIKEN, Shimadzu and the Bureau International des Poids et Mesures (BIPM)—the international organization through which states work together on matters related to metrology—signed a Memorandum of Understanding under which they will collaborate to study the feasibility of redefining the second using optical lattice clocks.
