RIKEN Center for Interdisciplinary Theoretical and Mathematical Sciences RIKEN-Berkeley Center

The RIKEN Berkeley Center is established within the Interdisciplinary Theoretical and Mathematical Sciences Program (iTHEMS) and maintains a satellite office at the University of California, Berkeley. The RIKEN Berkeley Center advances integrative research in fundamental physics, including quantum gravity, particle physics, nuclear physics, and the extreme universe. It plays a key role in promoting international collaboration and facilitating researcher exchange between Japan and the U.S., contributing to the global circulation of knowledge.
Members of the center hold primary appointments at RIKEN in Japan. While engaging in research collaboration with Japan-based researchers, they also undertake short- and long-term visits to UC Berkeley, where they actively collaborate with researchers based in Berkeley.
